WINTER FIRE SAFETY

Almost everyone enjoys a nice fire in their fireplace, but this friendly fire can turn into a deadly enemy if certain precautions are not taken. Monarch FPD welcomes Pastor Ed Sempstrott as Chaplain

The Monarch Fire Protection District would like to welcome Pastor Ed Sempstrott as it's new Chaplain.

Pastor Sempstrott has a long history with the fire service, starting with being the son of a Danville Fire Department Lieutenant. Additionally, he has had extensive experience dealing with crisis and trauma situations with fire and police personnel.

As an interesting sidenote - Pastor Sempstrott played professional baseball in the mid 1970's for the Kansas City Royals.

The Jewish Community Center, Marilyn Fox Building, has once again answered the public service alarm.

The Monarch Fire Protection District would like to offer our appreciation for the dedication to public service the JCC has demonstrated. The Jewish Community Center has allowed the fire district the use of their facility for the purpose of testing prospective employees. The JCC has also allowed the use of their facility to injured employees during their recovery process. Rob and Julie have been professional, gracious and generous when assiting with the needs of the fire district.

Monarch FPD joins lawsuit regarding Overtime Calculation

January 19th, 2007

Today, the Monarch Fire Protection District Board of Directors approved the District and Director Michelle Sleet joining in a lawsuit to seek a declaration that federal overtime calculations still apply to Missouri firefighters.

The Missouri Department of Labor has determined that the new Minimum Wage Law changed the manner in which overtime is calculated for firefighters. After the new Minimum Wage Law was approved by voters in November and became effective on Januar

Recent Promotion

The Monarch Fire Protection District wishes to announce the promotion of John A. Borgmann to the position of Battalion Chief.

Battalion Chief Borgmann started his career with the Department on January 3, 1981. He was promoted to Captain in August of 1988. He is a Missouri Division of Fire Safety Certified Fire Officer II, Instructor II, and Fire Inspector. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science Management from Maryville University in St. Louis. End of an Era

After a long and fruitful career in public service, Battalion Chief Jerry DeWeese has decided to retire and spend some more time with his family.

Chief DeWeese had the following to say:

Two teams of Monarch Fire Protection District Firefighter/Paramedics received Unit Citation Awards at the Greater St. Louis Area Fire Chiefs Association’s 2005 Award Luncheon on
Sunday, October 23, 2005.
