...Back Unit Commendations 2005 See original image Two teams of Monarch Fire Protection District Firefighter/Paramedics received Unit Citation Awards at the Greater St. Louis Area Fire Chiefs Association’s 2005 Award Luncheon on Sunday, October 23, 2005. One Unit Citation went to the crew of Engine 2230: Captain Rob Gilsinger, Engineer Lee Barton, and Firefighter/Paramedic Jason Herin. This crew assisted the Creve Coeur Fire Protection District at an apartment fire on May 22, 2004. Arriving on the scene, they were directed to rescue a woman who was trapped on her 3rd floor balcony. Flames were shooting from the door behind her, as she awaited rescue. In spite of a tree directly in front of the balcony, they were able to extend a ground ladder and safely rescue this woman. The second Unit Citation went to Battalion Chief Fred Goodson and the crew of Engine 2230: Captain Sean Porter, Engineer Lee Barton and Firefighter/Paramedic Mike Russell. This crew assisted the Maryland Heights Fire Protection District at an apartment fire on April 17, 2005. As they entered the apartment complex, they were advised that a woman was trapped on a 3rd floor balcony. After successfully rescuing the lady, they were directed to another section of the building to assist a Maryland Heights Firefighter who was out of air. They put a ladder up to the 2nd floor balcony and helped two firefighters down. The Monarch Fire Protection District Board of Directors and Fire Chief congratulated these personnel at the November 3, 2005, Board Meeting.
